Sonny’s Blues
by James Baldwin

The point of view in this story is portrayed as a narrator, a minor character. Sonny’s brother is the narrator. He is a caring brother that wants the best in life for him. Sonny’s brother is an algebra teacher. Yes, he does want to get his brother through school and teach him the right ways (morality). If this story was told by Sonny, there would probably be more of an “I don’t care about life attitude.” Sonny and his brother got into an argument, a fight so to speak. His brother wanted Sonny to finish school, but Sonny wanted to join the armed forces. Sonny ended up doing exactly that.
